FAQs
UKM ODL Accreditation
Is the programme accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)?
Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has been granted a self-accreditation/Swa Accreditation status by the Minister of Higher Education effective 29 April 2010. Thus, MQA empowers the Senate of UKM to accredit its own programmes guided by the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF) and relevant standards as well as policies of MQA and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
All the academic programmes of UKM with full accredited status are listed in MQR (https://www2.mqa.gov.my/mqr/) while programmes with provisional status are listed in the Provisional Accreditation (PA) listing at the MQA website (https://www2.mqa.gov.my/pasp/)
What does Self-Accreditation / Swa Accreditation mean?
Self-Accreditation (Swa Accreditation) is a designation that allows Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to independently accredit their programs through their own Senate, without the need for involvement from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). This status is granted by the MQA to universities that have demonstrated a robust internal quality assurance system. However, it's important to note that self-accreditation does not apply to professional programs, which must still be accredited and recognised by the relevant professional bodies. You can obtain more information on self-accreditation via https://www2.mqa.gov.my/portal_swa/FAQ.cfm
What does it mean by Full Accreditation?

Full Accreditation is an evaluation activity to ensure that the activities of teaching, learning, and all other activities related to a programme offered by a Higher Education Provider (HEP) has quality standards and meets the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF)
What does it mean by Provisional Accreditation?

Provisional Accreditation is an evaluation exercise to determine whether a programme has met the minimum quality requirements before being awarded the Full Accreditation. Provisional Accreditation is often for new programmes. The application for full Accreditation can be made when the first cohort of students is in their final year of study.
